As the team that brings all of our festive designs to life, it’s safe to say that the Paperless Post designers know how to party. So, we decided to give them a challenge: dream up their ultimate get-together, from the invitation to the activities, and share every imaginative detail so you can pull off something similar, too.

Using our unique, easy-to-create, textable Flyer invites as their starting point, they each built a world around their dream event—complete with creative food, music, and décor. The results? Five fresh, out-of-the-box party ideas you’ll want to steal for your next bash. From “house boiling” to medieval Friendsgiving, these Paperless Post originals prove that when it comes to unique birthday party ideas and party themes for adults, our designers are never short on inspiration. Let’s meet the team—and their amazingly inventive party themes.

Mariya’s dream party: House boiling

Mariya Pilipenko has a fresh take on the housewarming party, or at least a belated version. We think she says it best: “What is a ‘House Boiling’? We don’t really know. It’s warmer than a housewarming because we’ve lived in our house for over a year. We wanted to poke fun at the idea of a traditional housewarming and introduce our friends to our new neighborhood.”

For her invitation, Mariya started with our Views Flyer template, adjusting the fonts and colors, and adding custom stickers of her family and apartment to give it a cozy, offbeat charm. For the food, she’s offering a taste of the neighborhood, where guests get to sample bites from all of her new favorite local restaurants.

To keep excitement high, she’ll bring out the retro video game “Mario Paint,” turning it into a collaborative art project everyone can contribute to. And because every home improvement deserves a little audience participation, guests will go on house tours and vote on décor decisions, like which paint color should brighten up the bathroom. It’s the perfect blend of humor, creativity, and community, proving that the best party theme ideas often come from reinventing the ordinary.

Taryn’s dream party: Friendsgiving, but make it medieval

Design Your Own” Flyer by Paperless Post

Taryn Smith is taking Friendsgiving back—way back—with a medieval party theme. “I wanted to reimagine Thanksgiving as more of a harvest celebration,” she explains. “Playing into the medieval trend felt like a fun and different way to celebrate.”

Taryn’s invitation starts with a fully custom Design Your Own Flyer, brought to life with our image tool and a flurry of Giphy stickers. The design feels part Renaissance Faire, part cozy feast, and an inviting start to a memorable evening.

The menu is as hearty as it is whimsical: a table laden with grilled corn, braised carrots, and the centerpiece: a golden roast turkey. Charcuterie boards overflow with meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, and spreads, offering something for every guest to nibble between goblets of wine. The soundtrack sets the tone: modern pop hits reimagined with medieval flair. “Think ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ by Shakira, but with a lute and drums,” Taryn says.

To keep the festivities lively, guests duel for turkey legs. A friendly round of Super Smash Bros., Street Fighter, or Clue determines who gets the (very delicious) prize. The final touch is a costume dress code: tunics, corsets, and knightly garb are highly encouraged.

Cat’s dream party: “Dyeing” to celebrate

Butterfly Haze” Flyer by Paperless Post

Cat Chi’s dream party theme is an explosion of color, creativity, and fun in the form of a tie-dye birthday bash. Equal parts nostalgic and elevated, it’s a vibrant reminder that the best unique birthday party ideas can often be the simplest ones with a twist.

Cat began with our Butterfly Haze Flyer template—technically a kids’ design—and gave it a grown-up glow-up. Using animated stickers, Magic Fonts, and a playful Photo Gallery Block for tie-dye inspo, she transformed it into something chic and whimsical. Our designs are endlessly adaptable, and even a children’s theme can evolve into a stylish adult soirée with the right creative touches.

Her food menu mirrors her love of color and pattern. Guests are greeted with plates of caprese salad made with heirloom tomatoes and olive oil, followed by a showstopping pavlova topped with marbled meringue and fresh fruit. Drinks are just as artful—think gradient tequila sunrises that echo the tie-dye theme. For music, Cat cues up the “Beach Boys’ Party!” album on repeat, mixing in The Mamas and the Papas, The Roches, and early Paul McCartney for good measure.

Claire’s dream party: Labrador pool party

Bounce Zone” Flyer by Paperless Post

Claire Courtade’s dream party proves that the guest list can (and should) include your best furry friends. Her vision? A labrador-filled pool party where both humans and dogs get to splash, snack, and play.

Claire started with our Bounce Zone Flyer, customizing the gradient and adding a mix of playful stickers, including a few custom uploads of her own dogs. The result is a bright, summery design that perfectly captures the carefree energy of the day.

Snacks are simple but satisfying: crispy fries and ice-cold sodas for the humans, and mini vanilla ice cream cups for the pups. The soundtrack features Buddy Holly and other vintage summer tunes, while guests lounge in their swimsuits and floaties under the sun. With a hundred tennis balls and endless wagging tails, this party idea celebrates pure, pup-filled joy in its most unfiltered form.

Alexa’s dream party: Trinket show, tell, and swap

Soup Ladle” Flyer by Paperless Post

Alexa Reyes brings a nostalgic concept into grown-up territory with her adult show-and-tell party theme. Guests are invited to bring a favorite small item—something meaningful, funny, or sentimental—and share its story. Maybe it’s a matchbook from a favorite restaurant, a lucky shell found on the beach, or the rare collectible that finally completes their shelf. And for those willing to part with their treasures, swapping is encouraged.

Alexa’s invitation began with our Soup Ladle Flyer template, customized with her own colors and stickers to match the cozy, eccentric feel of the evening. For the dress code, she encourages guests to twin with their trinket. Think metallics if you’re bringing a locket, polka dots for a lucky die, or wings and a funny hat for a Sonny Angel. The menu leans mini, too—tiny bites like pigs-in-a-blanket and petite desserts to match the small-but-mighty theme. Her décor channels “Howl’s Moving Castle” bedroom-core, a dreamy blend of warmth and whimsy that makes the night feel both magical and personal.
