Facing History at Orinda Books: Being Heumann

Hosted byFacing History and Orinda Books

Join us at Orinda Books for an evening of community-building and conversation around "Being Heumann," the acclaimed memoir from disability rights activist Judith Heumann. Our Facing History Program Director Brian Fong will lead us in a discussion of Ms. Heumann’s life and her landmark civil rights activism, and together we'll learn how we can all be upstanders and advocates in our communities today. Light appetizers and refreshments will be served.

About Us

Facing History & Ourselves
Facing History & Ourselves uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate. We believe that the racism, prejudice, and inequity that we witness today are the legacy of brutal injustices of the past. Through our partnership with educators around the world, we are creating the next generation of leaders who will build a world based on knowledge and compassion, the foundation for more democratic, equitable, and just societies.

Orinda Books
Founded in 1976, Orinda Books is Contra Costa County’s largest independent bookstore. A community gathering space, they host author readings and book signings and feature artwork by local Orinda artists.
