Design an Invite/Card

Creating thank you notes, announcements, or other virtual cards using Invitation paper

  1. Begin by selecting to design an Invitation. After choosing the type of paper and motif you'd like to use for your note, announcement, or card, click "No, Thank You" when the site asks if you would like to use the Wording Assistant.
  2. Type whatever you would like directly on the card as if it were a regular text document, and format the text using the Style options on the left. (Hint: You can vary the fonts, font sizes, colors, and line spacing of your text as you wish.)
  3. In the first section of the Details page, change the first drop-down menu ("This is:") to "a Card."
  4. Make the subject line of your email (also on the Details page) whatever you would like. For a thank you note, perhaps it could be "Thanks!"
  5. Click the "Done" button and send the note, announcement, or card normally via the Delivery page.

Selecting a paper

Scroll through the cover flow on the homepage of the paper categories Paperless Post has to offer (i.e., Classic Formal, Modern Casual, etc.). Click on any of the thumbnails to be taken into the entire category to view all the papers within that style. Alternatively, you may also select a category of paper from the "Create" menu in the top navigation bar on any page.

If you are in a category (e.g., Classic Formal) and decide you'd like to view papers in a different category (e.g., Modern Formal), simply click the drop-down menu called "Change Paper Style" on the top right of the Paper tab and select a different category.

Scroll through the papers. Once you have found the paper you would like to use, click on the thumbnail, and the larger version of it will appear on the right for you to begin writing and designing on.

Do I have to use a motif?

No, you do not have to use a motif. They are optional and for decorative purposes only. If you want to skip the motif, simply click the "Next" button when you are brought to the Image tab.

What if I want to place my motif on the middle of the paper or between lines of text?

Motifs can only be placed in six standardized spots on the paper: in all four corners and in the center of the top and bottom. The motif cannot be placed in the middle of the page. Moving the motif by dragging and dropping it on the card will automatically snap the motif into place.

Why am I not allowed to put motifs on certain cards?

Only certain cards may be paired with a motif. Cards that have their own designs on them or other design elements such as ribbons or borders may not be appropriate to use with motifs. This is a measure the Paperless Post design team has taken to ensure invitations always look as clean and beautiful as possible.

What if Paperless Post does not provide the motif I'm looking for?

Please feel free to get in contact with us by writing help@paperlesspost.com and we will consider your request very carefully.

What if I have my own logo, monogram or motif that I want to put on my card?

You can send us your logo, monogram, or motif by uploading a high resolution image here. We can upload it into your design tool where you can size, tint, emboss and place the graphic as you design.

What if I want to use my own wording? Can I type directly on the card?

By all means, as a user you should use your own wording if you wish to. Effective wording, be it formal etiquette or creative expression, is the most important aspect of any invitation or card. If you would like to formulate your own message without using the Wording Assistant, you may simply click "No" when asked if you would like to use the Wording Assistant. Then click on the paper itself on the right-hand side of the screen and write free-form. You may format your text using the styling options to the left.

Do I have to use the Wording Assistant?

No, the wording assistant is a guide provided by Paperless Post for those who would like assistance with formulating proper wording. Where possible, all of the examples follow generally accepted American or British etiquette standards. Once you have chosen a category in the wording assistant you can click through the various categories to see many different templates.

Can I use more than one color or font on a card?

Yes, you can use as many fonts and colors as you would like on one card. Just highlight the text you'd like to adjust and use the styling options on the left. Additionally, you may use different font sizes on the card, and you can also adjust line spacing on a line-by-line basis.

Choosing if your invitation or card is delivered in an envelope or in the email

Your card can either be delivered to your recipients in personalized envelopes or the card can be displayed directly in their emails:

  1. Go to the Design page.
  2. In the envelope tab, select to use the "Formal" display with an envelope, or the "Casual" display with the card directly in the email.
  3. If the card has not yet been sent and you do not see the Formal/Casual options, click the "Remove Envelope" button at the bottom of the Envelope tab.
  4. After saving your changes, you can go to the Preview page to see how your email will look to your recipients.

How do I add a photo to an invitation or card?

To put a photo on an invitation, you should use a "Photo Invitation" or a "Two-sided Photo Invitation" under the Invitation paper category. Using a Photo and/or a Second Side requires you to spend Custom Coins to send (it is 1 Coin per recipient you send to).

Photo Dimensions for Photo Invitations and Photo Save the Dates

The horizontally- and vertically-oriented Photo Invitations can fit photos that are roughly 5x7 in proportion. The square Photo Invitations and Photo Save the Dates are exact squares. These are the exact dimensions of the photo "windows" in pixels:

  1. Full Page Vertical Photo Cards (two-sided): 465 x 636
  2. Full Page Horizontal Photo Cards (two-sided): 600 x 441
  3. Bordered Vertical Photo Cards (two-sided): most are 340 x 500, and a few are 281 x 410
  4. Regular One-sided Photo Cards (with horizontal "window"): 344 x 273
  5. All square cards (one-sided and two-sided cards) are perfect squares, so as long as the photo is at least 600 x 600 pixels, the software will automatically scale it to fit.

Including a link on your invitation or card

Links typed directly on an invitation or card cannot be made active, or live, since clicking anywhere on the paper will bring your recipient to the reply page to either RSVP or leave a comment. Links (and email addresses) placed on the reply page itself will automatically be made active.

To insert links or email addresses on your reply page, do the following:

  1. Go to the Details page of your mailing.
  2. Type or paste your links (and any other text you'd like to include) in the box called "Note to Guests Above RSVP" for RSVP events, or called "Note to recipients on the next page" for Announcements and Save the Dates.
  3. Click the "Done" or "Save & Next" button to save your changes. You can preview how this appears using the Preview page.

Note: Remember to include the "http://" before the URL if it does not have "www." at the beginning of it, otherwise the system will not recognize it as a link.

Can I upload my company's logo?

Paperless Post does not support automatic logo uploading yet. Please click here to review our logo pricing and the uploading options that we do have available. The process will require a high-resolution EPS or PDF file.

Paperless Post does not currently support the automated use of non-Paperless Post creative materials on the site. Email help@paperlesspost.com with any inquiries regarding custom work.

It says my invitation or card is saving, but it's taking forever. Why is this happening and what do I do to fix it?

You can save your invitation or card design by clicking the "Save and Next" button on the top right of the page in the "Style" section of the design tool. If this process is taking more than 30 seconds and you are operating in a spotty Internet zone, please be patient. If the invitation or card continues not to load, click the "Save and Next" button again.

Will you save my draft until I'm ready to send it in a couple weeks?

Yes, if you complete your card and save the design, then the draft will remain in your account until you are ready to send. It will be in the Drafts folder of your Post Box.

Can my logo be uploaded to the envelope, or can I change the stamp on the envelope?
